I am so very honored and delighted to be teaching kindergarten and first grade here at Gorman Elementary School! These are such important years for children, as it's when they form their opinion about school and learning in general. I plan to provide the children a fun and academically rigorous program that I hope will set them on the path to a lifelong love of learning. I am also pleased to announce that I am also serving as assistant principal, having qualified for my preliminary administrative credential, by passing the CPACE exam.
I have a B.A. in Communications from Pepperdine University, and dual credentials in Multiple Subjects and Special Education from Cal State Dominguez Hills. This is my 20th year teaching, and I still love it! I started in special education for L.A. County, and then taught at Arlington Elementary in Torrance for 12 years, the last nine in regular ed. kindergarten. I most recently taught at Maricopa, but jumped at the chance to teach here in the mountain communities, which I have called home since 2008.
I love living here in the mountains, and enjoy reading, gardening, art, raising chickens and horseback riding. I am also committed to bettering our community. I am a part-time realtor, write the "Michi's Magic Bookshelf" column for the New Mountain Pioneer, and host a free monthly storytime/craft. I also serve as president of the Pinon Pines HOA board. It is a privilege to now also serve as an educator here at Gorman.
